Minister Sari Sarkomaa:
The new university a first-class place to research, teach and learn

The central aim of the blue-green government is to make Finland a country of creativity, expertise and advanced education. This is also the aim of the Innovation University, which has been under determined and focused preparation. Less than a year ago the objective of creating a university that would aspire to become one of the internationally leading institutions was recorded in the government program. This is now swiftly becoming reality. Read more.

 

Vice Rector, Professor, Project Manager Olli Ahtola: 

”The managers make sure that the decisions made later on would apply to all three universities. Also the exploitation of common interfaces and especially encouraging to find them is part of the work. Besides, we give propositions to the ministry how the resources could be used.”, says Olli Ahtola. Read more.

 

 

Dean Helena Hyvönen: 

”We have to think about what kind of community a new student enters at the start of his or her studies, so that that experience will be an important, inspiring and a pleasant one. There needs to be a feeling of community from the beginning, but the student will be treated as an individual. The community has to be strong and positive and it has to have links with the surrounding community, too.”, explains Helena Hyvönen, Dean of the School of Design and Professor of Textile Design at TaiK. Student Services Theme Group

The universities have assembled several theme groups to outline the forthcoming Innovation University.
The Student Services theme group has taken a broader perspective on the matter than that suggested by their title, by also examining the functions of a study administration that serves both students and studying. Accordingly, the group has renamed itself the Student and Study Services theme group. Read more.

Student Unions Kicked off Preparations for New Student Union for the Innovation University

The Student Unions of Helsinki School of Economics, KY, the University of Art and Design Helsinki, TOKYO, and Helsinki University of Technology, TKY, held a kick-off event on 10 March 2008. This event was held for the working groups planning for the new students’ union of the coming Innovation University. This new students’ union will commence its operations at the start of the new Innovation University on 1 August 2009. Read more.

A call for Ideas for Joint Research Groups and Research Topics produced 90 Suggestions

The vision of the yet to be established Innovation University is to be a world-class university. This will require investments in top researchers, career systems, salaries, incentives and, above all, new research ideas that innovatively combine and develop the competence of the three constituent universities.
